MERRILL MAGNER

Tax Preparer / Teacher

About Me

Merrill Magner graduated from Brown University in June 1976, with a B.A. in Mathematics, and a minor in Secondary Education. She taught high-school mathematics for one year before spending the next 22 years in the computer field, including program, database and system design, information system analysis, testing, and project planning. During those years, she worked for SAI Comsystems, Control Data Corporation (CDC) and Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). She sought opportunities to continue her teaching and leadership activities, by developing training materials and teaching her colleagues at work. She also led a Quality Assurance group of her peers at both CDC and CSC.

Beginning in September 2001, Merrill became the Registrar for Burke Basketball Association in Burke, VA, and now also serves as the Bookkeeper for that organization. In fall 2002, she began taking classes at Jackson Hewitt Tax Service in tax preparation and has worked for them part-time for the past 6 years during tax season. Last December, she began teaching basic classes for Jackson Hewitt, Burke.

Coming full circle, she has decided to start her own business in Tax Preparation and Teaching, as well as FAFSA preparation, in line with her desire to contribute to her community, by helping/teaching others in important ways. She also continues to volunteer for the local softball organization, www.nvgsa.org, in registration, training coordination, etc., since that was an important part of her younger daughters’ lives.
